October 19, 2009 This year's 11th Annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase was another exciting event, filled with the majority of the state's best basketball talent. With a large collection of much of the state's best boy's basketball talent in attendance for this year's 11th version of the annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase, the field of talent was fierce. It really showed our Arizona Preps' staff just how good the talent pool in Arizona really is and has become over the years. This weekend on the campus of Arizona State University, much of this talent was showcased in exciting fashion. While there were numerous top performers and top performances throughout the weekend, two individual student-athletes stood out overall. St. Mary's High School 6-foot-6 senior forward George Matthews and Mesa HS 5-foot-10 junior point guard Jahii Carson both took home this year's Tournament Most Valuable Player award. Matthews was on fire throughout the event, showcasing his ability to shoot and handle the basketball, while also playing unselfishly with his tournament teammates. His athleticism was showcased throughout the weekend, as he brought home numerous highlight reel dunks and showcased his overall versatility as a player. Carson was one of the most exciting performers thorughout the weekend. His athletic talent is glaring as he electrified the crowd in attendance with his ability to play above the rim (finishing runner-up in this year's slam dunk competition), and also his quickness with the basketball and defensive intensity. Carson is truly an amazing talent. Congratulations to both of this year's Tournament MVP recipients and their families on this tremendous honor from our Arizona Preps' staff - they truly earned the honor. |
