This year's Arizona Preps Fall Showcase was a great success, as many of the state of Arizona's best players took center stage throughout the weekend.

Two student-athletes from the state of New York also made the trip, looking to maximize their exposure to college coaches and also to compete against top-notch talent in this year's event.

Jose Reyes, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound junior guard from Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, New York, and Aaren Edmead, a 5-foot-5, 120-pound 8th grader from Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park, New York both made the trip to this year's event.

While it might be assumed that both student-athletes might know each other very well before making the trip to this year's Fall Showcase, that was not the case, as their two paths would cross on the campus of Arizona State University.

Reyes, born in the Bronx, New York and raised in Long Island, has been playing the game of basketball since he was 7 years old. He averaged 10 points and 4 assists per/game last season as a sophomore starter on Shenendehowa High School's varsity team, while leading the team to a 21-2 overall record.

Reyes is a tough, hard-nosed point guard that handles and passes the basketball very well. He is also a very good scorer off the dribble and also a good penetrator of the basketball, where he is able to finish plays and create scoring opportunities for others. Reyes accepts challenges very well and likes to push the basketball up the floor.

Reyes earned a selection as an alternate for this year's Upperclassmen All-Star game, as he was selected by his coach in the event.

Reyes plans to major in business administration in college, and advised us that he currently carries a 3.0 CUM GPA.

"My goal is to one day play for a D-1 school such," said Reyes. "I want to major in Business and hope to one day run a successful business. There is only one route I will take and that is getting better by the day."

Aaren Edmead, a 5-foot-5, 120-pound 8th grader from Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park, New York, was selected for this year's Underclassmen All-Star game after his performance in this year's event.

While still being very small in stature, the middle schooler has a bright future ahead of him as a floor general from the point guard position, as Edmead likes to push the basketball up the floor to the open man, and shows superior self-confidence for such a young age. He also is a very tough competitor and competes very hard. Edmead will only continue to improve mentally and physically over the next four years of high school, as he begins to mature.

An honor roll student, Edmead plans to play on the junior varsity basketball team this season for Deer Park High School as a freshman, and possibly see time on the varsity as the season progresses.

Our Arizona Preps' staff would like to thank both of these two young men for coming out to this year's event, and would like to wish them both good luck this high school season.
